One thing that's always puzzled me: why did this particular game get such a 
huge crowd? There have been so many "bigger" games than a 5th round FA Cup tie 
vs Sunderland played at SOTG, but this is our record attendance.

There was massive rivalry between Leeds and Sunderland at the time, following 
on from comparisons made by the media between the two teams during the 2nd 
division promotion season. It was a midweek evening cup REPLAY and from memory 
it was all pay on the gate -certainly in the standing areas. I think the draw 
for the next round had also been made and I think Man City awaited. There was a 
strong feeling that we were going to Wembley again.
For Sunderland fans at least, these feelings continued to the later Wembley FA 
cup final, and possibly still do.
Hope I have this right - from memory.
