----- Original Message ----- One thing that's always puzzled me: why did this particular game get such a huge crowd? There have been so many "bigger" games than a 5th round FA Cup tie vs Sunderland played at SOTG, but this is our record attendance.
There was massive rivalry between Leeds and Sunderland at the time, following on from comparisons made by the media between the two teams during the 2nd division promotion season. It was a midweek evening cup REPLAY and from memory it was all pay on the gate -certainly in the standing areas. I think the draw for the next round had also been made and I think Man City awaited. There was a strong feeling that we were going to Wembley again. For Sunderland fans at least, these feelings continued to the later Wembley FA cup final, and possibly still do. Hope I have this right - from memory. _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman-new.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected] MARCHING ON TOGETHER
