Late comments, but:

Defence - the 2 full-backs arn't in harmony with the centre-backs. The right
back (Connoley) was often ball watching and exposed too much for my liking,
especially against a really rubbish team like Boro.

Faye - I thought he did really well, certainly 1st half - did simple stuff very
effectively and plugged lots of gaps.

Upfront we looked dangerous, and Bechio was unlucky not to have 2, but I agree
with Rich that Cormack is far more mobile and direct. Can't see him changing a
winning team though.

Now, slightly contentious comment time. For quite some time I've wondered why
all the fuss about Snodgrass. Yep, he can dribble a bit and so on, but he is
soooooo slow and predictable. He needs to do some sprint training!

Saw 5 mins of the Blackburn v Scumderland last night - dire!! I loathe
everything about Allardyce too - his chewing, his voice, his stance, his
tactics - an all round tool!

Good points Kev .. however,

I really don't believe Becchio is the best partner for Somma , having seen
McCormack and Somma against Donny I believe moving forward that is the best we
have to offer at the moment. (I haven't seen Paynter yet).  Ok, we drew a blank
that night but we made their keeper work and on another night Somma would have
had a hat-trick. I thought McCormack was lively and direct and I like that in a
forward, Becchio doesn't trouble defences. Running around slowly and aimlessly
might look good but it's not the way forward in my book.

Faye - I thought he was great first half but marked him down due to his
workrate
second half - Not sure if you've taped the game but watch him second half when
they are all over us he is nowhere. His injury was a blessing in disguise or
maybe that was the reason of his lack of movement second half ?

Collins and Naylor - maybe I was being harsh on Naylor, he had one small lapse
and we conceded a goal but there were another 2 shaky moments. As for Collins
I'm watching him like a hawk at the moment and am horrified by some of his
defending. He is clumsy, slow and has this annoying habit of standing off
defenders and watching. Have a look at the very first attack of Boro's inthe
game. Ball played long - Collins stands off his man (5 yards off him), the
bloke
is able to control it and set up a Boro attack. Any decent defender would have
been up his arse competing for the ball.

Subject: Re: [LU] Becchio's Goal

Not posted much this season, but a few observations on Boro game.  As I agree
with a lot of what Rich says, I'll just say where my thoughts differ.

Becchio:  Infuriates me at times.  I was still berating him for poor control,
when he rescued it, prodded it out to Johnson and smashed in the cross.
Rich, I kow you don't think he's much cop, but he is probably the forward we
have at challenging in the air and closing down defenders.  Seems to be the
best
partner for Somma to my mind, at least until Paynter is fit.

Centre Backs:  I thought you were a bit harsh on them in that they looked quite
solid to me on Saturday. It helped that Boro had no pace at all up front, must
be why they've been so poor, and only started to threaten a) when we had to
reorganise on the left and b) when Lita came on.  I  thought Hughes was equally
to blame for the goal, just back off their full-back, who was given enopugh
time
to measure the cross.  Because there was no pressure on the ball, the rest of
the defence couldn't afford afford to step up, and made it easy for Boyd to
meet
the the crosss

Connolly: No World beater, but probably the best option we have at Right Back.
McCartney looks to be the best left-back we've had for some time, but half of
one match can be deceiving.

Lastly Faye,  I thought he was very effective.  Firstly he is a holding
midfielder, so doesn't venture too far into the attacking third.  Secondly if
he
does get caught ahead of the ball, ahe actually sprints back to get goal-side,
then either goes to try and win the ball or track an opposition player.
Kilkenny, not being naturally inclined that way does none of those things, and
always has to make it back from about 10 yds further forward to start with.  He
just seem to plod back, never really getting there.

Just my view of things.

Kev.
