I've grown to like them, despite our appalling record in them. But I'd prefer to see a system that favours the teams that finished higher during the season, like this: Third placed team automatically qualifies for the Wembley final. Sixth plays fifth, with fifth having home advantage. Single game, not two legs. The winner plays fourth, with fourth having home advantage. Single game again . The winner goes to Wembley to play the third-placed team. So the higher you finish, the fewer the number of games you have to play. You could actually extend the playoff qualification down the league using this format, as there would be fewer "semi-final" games through not having a two-leg format.
