To be fair we have still got both our wide players (Max and Snoddy) plus
their back up - (Sam), and our only ever present midfielder (Howson)
We have lost one fringe midfielder (Watt) and two regulars in Johnson and
Kilkenny but both of these have as many (more?) bad features as good, and to
me were one of our main problems - since neither of them together with
Howson were good enough as a 2 man midfield we had to play 5 in the middle
and that led us to having Becchio on his own up front and under-using Somma
and McCormack who both looked good at times.
In addition we have 'added' (at least brought back from loan) White, Nunez
and Clayton, who, although they all have a lot to prove , have shown in
glimpses either at other clubs or in the reserves that they may well have
something to offer.
Having said all that we do still need a midfield enforcer to supplement all
the above and we obviously need a left back (cannot rely on Parker) another
keeper, and probably a centre half to cover Paddy and O'Brien - both Bromby
and Bruce have big deficiencies in their games.
Clayton can replace Kilkenny and cant Bruce play in a midfield holding role?
And I wouldn't rule out Charlie Taylor playing a few games at left back. May
only be 18 but if they're going to be any good they are starting to get
first team games at that age. Looks stronger than Parker or White and I
noticed in one reserve game he was taking all the free kicks and corners.
That he's been given a 3 year contract suggests he's well thought of.
Just need a goalie. No need for any more players, squads probably too big.
Invest the money in something more useful like a Costa Coffee franchise
