This really was a topsy turvy game - some good bits of play mixed in with some really awful bits of play. It was similar to Palace game in a number of respects, not least the fact that we got 3 points but probably did not deserve them.We started brilliantly and could have had 4 goals in the first 10 minutes - unfortunately 3 of the chances fell to Keogh. Yes he is a decent link up player but he has to do a lot better when he does get chances , I am sure his time with us is almost up, As soon as Becchio is deemed fully fit he will start and it will be bye bye Andy Keogh. Like I say he could have had a hat trick early doors - he had one chance when he chested it down to himself but lost control and was crowded out (very similar to the chance that fell to Becchio that RIch W mentioned) he had another when a good ball across from Snoddy (who was shocking and looked uninterested again today) went right across the goal and Keogh just failed to connect, and then the biggest miss of all, and almost the changing point of the whole game, a lovely ball from Nunez (who looked lost out on the wing but lively when allowed to come into the middle) picked him out, through on goal with only James to beat but he fluffed it big time. That would have made it 2 0 and possibly sealed the win at that point. Instead they broke away soon after and Kilkenny in acres of space on the edge of the box passed it onto to the bar and in (it looked like it was going over at one point) That cancelled out a brilliant strike from Clayton. a left foot curler into the top corner. Our failure to defend (where have we heard that before ?) meant that all our early good work counted for nothing and it really seemed to affect the confidence of the team and we totally lost our way for much of the rest of the game.It must be soul destroying for them all, we start well , get ahead and then a bit of poor defending lets us all down. Our inability to defend / hold onto a lead is really threatening to derail our season. The rest of the half and indeed the game, was poor from our perspective,. We gave the ball away for no reason and failed to string any passes together. O'Dea nearly gifted them a goal when he gave it away when under no pressure, but Lonergan saved it (and us). Even Lonergans kicking started to suffer and another unforced error by him led to them bearing down on goal and Paddy (still a shadow of his former self) brought the lad down and got a red. Luckily the penalty was hit right at Lonergan and they failed to make the man advantage count.Becchio came on and fluffed his chance and then we got a throw in - let Bromby take it we all yelled, the players heeded our cries and Bromby hurled it into the box- Becchio flicked it on,probably going for goal and McCormack, who really is on fire goal wise, nipped in and applied the touch that was needed to put it past James. We then held on for the last few minutes and got the 3 points but it was all a bit unsatisfactory. If Keogh wants to stay he needs to start scoring and somehow, Grayson and his staff need to teach the team to defend - it is getting beyond a joke Dave _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected]
