Jeez, people talk and write a lot of crap about football!

"Portsmouth 0" was a very welcome entry in the record books, but a lot of
the reactions to it are way wide of reality.

I have been lucky enough to see the last two games on live feeds (albeit
slightly shaky ones), and I feel the following widely accepted views are
wrong:

1. Bromby was at fault for all 3 goals v Brighton.

The first was, I reckon, the result of an incredibly flukey pivot by the
striker. I don't think even he knew what he was doing, so I don't see how
Bromby could have anticipated it. OK, Bromby was maybe half a step away from
being goalside, but that wasn't a major error.
Second goal..........possibly a clumsy challenge, accepted.
The 3rd...........O"Dea should have closed the guy down who ran into the
box. He was very sluggish in his footwork, which allowed the cross to come
in..........and then you have to give credit to the double-barrelled
pillock, he did an out-in move and just timed it right. That is very hard to
defend against.
(P.S. I've said this on this list before, but is it true that
double-barrelled bastards always seem to score against us!?)

2. The new personnel at the back are the answer.

Lees & Connolly did indeed do well, but there were still some very shaky
moments.
Two unchallenged headers from Halford from 6 yds within the space of 30
secs.
One time when we had 4 or 5 defenders across the edge of our box, but
allowed Ward to stand in 3 yds of space right in the middle of them.
One horrible moment in the dying minutes when two players (O'Dea & White I
think) left the ball for each other and allowed an attacker to have it
inside the box. Clayton receiving the ball on the edge of our box deep into
stoppage time and giving it straight back to them, allowing them that last
long throw.

If two or three of those had resulted in goals, as they easily could have,
you would all have been gnashing your teeth and wailing about terrible
defending and sacking Snodin etc etc.

Having said all that, obviously, I think that the same back 4 should play v
Donnie, and will hopefully soon settle into a solid unit.
