Sam was out of position and the goal was his fault - their Right Back made the cross and should not have been allowed so much time or space. > It was the first time White and Sam had started together so it wasn't going to be perfect but Sam did enough good things including the cross for our first goal which suggests to me he should stay in the side. I would argue that if Danny Pugh had been playing we wouldn't have won the game because theres no way he would have been able to produce a killer cross like that. You could equally argue that if Sam hadn't been playing we wouldn't have been a goal down in the first place. Attacking flair is all very well but we won't win by being reckless. We can't blame Grayson for not sorting the defence out and then encourage a player like Sam not to track back, just because he might provide that spark. We played that suicidal game with Kewell and got destroyed down the left more times than I care to remember whilst the chosen one stood with his hands on his hips watching it happen. Sam must track back and pick up his man or he doesn't deserve to be in the team.
