I'm sad to say it, but I think this is curtains for Grayson. He has a squad
packed full of internationals - the vast majority of whom were signed by him -
and he can't get them to perform. For the past three seasons he's shown an
inability to get his team to defend, an inability that has been partially
hidden by the fact that his midfield and strikers have been able to find the
net with consistency. Now that latter ability has evaporated, and we are
nothing. It's hard to avoid the conclusion that somehow he's lost the dressing
room - whether that's connected to the O'Brien situation or not. I know we'd be
doing better if Bates spent the money that has flooded into the club in recent
seasons on the squad. Indeed, Bates has to share much of the blame and I'd
rather sack him other than Grayson, but unfortunately he's the owner. However,
we've got a big squad that Grayson can't get to win at the moment. The bottom
line in my opinion is that Bates made his biggest mistake in not s
igning up Paul Lambert to be our manager while Lambert was at Colchester. I'd
like to give Grayson more time, but I don't see any evidence that the team is
giving their all for him.
