It does that way but the other way goes to Norwood junction staying just
on The Overground (May have to change at The Library though)

Unless something has changed, that branch of London Overground stops at
Clapham Junction. You can go direct from Clapham Jct to Selhurst though,
on Southern -IF you can negotiate Clapham Jct Station !
The ever-popular "park at Cockfosters or Southgate" is not a bad idea.
You need to change from the Piccadilly to Victoria at Finsbury Park but
then it's only one stop to Highbury & Islington from where London
Overground DOES go direct to Norwood Junction. This (KX to H&I) is also
an alternative to going from Kings Cross to London Bridge and then by
Southern.
Thameslink is not running across London from St Pancras.
