Yes, because it really is a simple as that - ask Leicester..........<<<

In Ian Murray's simple world that's how it is. He has no grasp of business
(hence his blathering on about me "enjoying a trade fair" when I was
pointing out how a modern football ground (Ricoh Arena) is able to earn money
on
non-match days through running mundane but profitable trade shows. But that
had to be rubbish as Coventry City are crap. Whoosh! there goes the point,
right over his little head.

He seems to think running a football club is like his home economics. We've
got a couple of grand spare - do we refit the kitchen or go on holiday?

Money spent on ER's facilities is not coming from the same pot as the
money that runs the football team. End of. I'm guessing that the refurb funds
are borrowed at reasonable rates, against a tangible business plan that shows
a confidently forecast business plan (revenue for banqueting, hospitality
and, yes, trade fairs). This will show a swift return and ongoing profits,
so the money is available.

This is clearly not the case when attempting to forecast football revenues.
Ridsdale's business plans were (tenuously) predicated on us reaching the
Champs' League every year. Look at the ridiculous borrowings he had to take
on in order to sign players? Do we really want to go back there?

Murray argued we should spend the maximum permissible (50% of turnover) on
players' wages as this will somehow guarantee promotion. There are teams
that are doing that, and look where they are - Ipswich Town and Leicester
City have hardly set the Championship alight.

Promotion will come when the manager and team hit the right formula. Just
like Norwich have done - without maxing out the club credit card on overpaid
 primadonna players.
