Bates Out !

Sang with more passion than ever before at the kick off yesterday, shame the
players didn't show the same passion. I quite liked the look of the midfield -
Clayton, Delph, Townsend and Snodgrass ... surely too good for your average
Championship team, but it never worked. We couldn't string 2 passes together.
Delph looked off the pace and Clayton just didn't get involved as if he's
sulking cos his partner from earlier in the season has gone. The back four were
awful. How Grayson can drop Aidy White in favour of Danny Pugh at left back is
beyond me. This is a case of I've spent money on bringing in a player so I
will accommodate him at all costs even if it means I have to drop our best
player. Danny Pugh can't defend, has no pace and just looks like a clogger. How
can we progress with players like this ?

Let's not forget Ipswich - they were just as bad and the game as a spectacle
must go down as one of the worst for a while and that's saying something. Then
Ipswich get a corner at the South Stand , they take it short, their player
moves inside and takes a speculative shot from outside the box and Lonergan
makes a complete arse of it. He looked like he was complaining about the lack
of cover for the shot but Christ, he should have saved that. I must confess I
retired to the bar at this point and didn't even watch the remainder on the
screen. Glad I did because I was told nothing happened apart from a load of
boos and  more Bates Out chants as the players left the park.

Second half I didn't return immediately but did watch a bit and it just didn't
improve. Some reporting that we were better and upped the tempo in the second
half, thinking about it I'm not sure we did to be honest, if we did it was
marginal, Ipswich had a few attempts that were close and it was a period where
we could have lost the game. Then Ipswich decided to gift us the game. First
McCarthy did his old team mates a favour by catching the ball outside the box
and getting himself sent off. He got the biggest round of applause of the day -
'You're Leeds and you know you are' - ha ha.

Ipswich then decided to defend deeply and invited pressure. I often wonder why
teams do this because even with 10 men I think the could have got another and
avoided the situations that created our goals. Our first was pure comedy with
their player giving it to Snoddy on a plate. A ridiculously bad goal from their
point of view. Then a ball down the middle , their sub keeper comes out and
just seems to miss it leaving Macca to roll it into an empty net. Then Becchio
who came on for the ineffective Forsell and slotted in a 3rd to win the game.
Ipswich had abandoned all defensive duties by then however Becchio took his
goal really well which surprised me because I thought he'd forgotten what his
feet were for. His first touch in open play though I can report has not
changed. He'll get picked again next match unfortunately.

This game really papered over the cracks as Dave said, but Ipswich will go
nowhere this season if they carry on giving away games like this. Guy behind me
said he wished we'd lost this game, I could never say that but I know what he
means.

I'd give most of the team nothing out of 10 for this. Snodgrass , Macca and
Becchio can have 1 for their goals ..... AND WE WON 3-1 !!!!!!!

What a moaning git I am but anyone who was there yesterday knows that the
atmosphere and the general feeling about the place is desperate and something
has to give.
