Well a proper game of two halves. On my way to the ground I had the same optimistic feeling as Tim L. This has the makings of an exciting young team - with one fast and one tricky winger and 2 young talented midfielders with good engines who can both get stuck in, and a young back 4 with promise (if Smith is any good) Early on I was not disappointed, the low crowd, made up for a lack of numbers with a bit of passion -we did as Grayson had asked and got behind the team and left all the anti Bates stuff outside where it belongs. SG for his part did what he had promised and set the team to start right from the off. We could, perhaps should, have been 3 up within 115 minutes, two chances, one each to Becchio and Snoddy were scrambeld away as we put them under pressure, then came our best chance as Becchio was though one on one with the keeper but hit it wide - a bad miss. Brum struggled to get out of their own half apart from one break when Lonergan saved well (although their player looked offside). Then came the breakthourgh - Ross controlled a high ball, brought it down, beat his man and fired into the corner. 1 - 0 and well deserved. Then a familiar weakness - amidfielder playing out of position (Zac Thompson) was skinned by the winger and O'Dea (?) was static as their giant got in front of him and headed home 1 1. They came more into it after that and it was even from then till half time. I texted my lad at half time to say "good first half. We deserve to be a couple of goals up. play same 2nd, kicking towards us and I reckon we will win" Ok so I got it a bit wrong Second half we strated OK but then came the turning point - a chip back into the box by O'Dea was headed on well by Becchio but the keeper pulled off a great save. It seemed to inspire them and devestate us, and from then on we were second best. A mazy run by the winger tied White and O'D in knots and he pulled it back to Ziggy who was left unmarked and fired home, then a cross was well met by him for his hattrick , and then a near post corner was headed in by him. We were totally destroyed in the space of ten minutes. The crowd turned on Bates and to a lesser extent Grayson. We had nothing on the bench to change things. SO very disappointing end after a good start. They are a good team and playing well but we just surrendered
