I wouldn't be surprised to hear that DOL's cv is on Bates's desk. He's making noises ever since he left that there's unfinished business. The only good thing I could say about DOL is that he did go with the youngsters whereas someone like George Graham might not have done that. Having said that , what a set of youngsters he had. The problem with DOL came when he started to bring in some big names - he couldn't make them blend and he was obviously out of his depth. Which striker ? Fowler, Keane, Viduka, Smith ??? Which defender ?? Radebe, Woodgate, Rio, Matteo ?

I think its too simplistic to say DOL was lucky cause he inherited it a good squad and squads run themselves.. If that was the case why would anybody hire a manager? Also, the fact that he had good "raw material" means nothing. I can go out and buy the best piece of meat and cook it to shits. I d still need to apply knowledge to get the best result of that raw material. having said that I think DOL is more a "good weather" manager than one than can turn things around, ie no money, no nothing..
