Petition and information about an appalling situation in Thailand.

WFFT is a good organization that cares for injured, abused, and neglected
animals. The DNP should also be doing this, but in this case it seems the
DNP are taking revenge on WFFT since WFFT founder named 5 DNP officials for
being responsible for the killings of 5 wild elephants earlier. Baby
elephants bring in a lot of money for tourist shows. The breeding programs
can’t produce the baby elephants fast enough to meet the demand, so
poachers go and catch wild baby elephants (receiving about 100,000 baht for
the job). When the wild baby is tranquilized, the mother and others tries
to protect the baby and sometimes have to be killed to get rid of them.
The baby is then taken away to an area near the Thai – Burma border to be
trained (another HUGE form of animal cruelty. The training is sickening).
Once trained the baby will be put in elephant camp and tourist shows for
1000’s of tourists to adore and have photos taken with it. Of course most
tourists don’t realize all the terrible things they are supporting that
happened to get that elephant there. The camps will say another elephant
is the mother, but the truth is the real mother was killed in order to get
the baby. There is BIG money involved in this as tourists all love to see
a baby elephant.

When the raid began the DNP accused WFFT of having illegal animals and
demanded to see the paperwork for over 450+ animals. While printing out
the paperwork for more than 2 hours non-stop the printer broke from
overuse. 103 documents were still not printed. The DNP then stated that
these 103 animals were illegal because there was no paperwork. A few days
later it was printed, but now the DNP refuses to even look at it.

Let’s pretend the DNP was right for a minute and that WFFT did have illegal
animals. Is this the proper way of fixing it? Terrifying the animals,
taking them out of their homes and putting them in tiny cages, showing up
with 100’s of officers with weapons, spreading lies about WFFT, etc. This
is far from the proper way of dealing with the situation, which leads me to
believe once again that this is revenge by the DNP for speaking out about
the elephant killings.

Let’s stand up for the protection of animals. Let’s take a stand against
political corruption and illegal wildlife trading.

Please write to CNN, BBC, Thai news, Thai government, and ask them to cover
this story. WFFT said the DNP showed up one day with Thai media but only
let them hear DNP's side of the story and not report anything from WFFT.

Please copy this and share on Facebook, Twitter, etc. Let the world know
what is happening and that it must stop.
