Could it be that Warnock understood within a very short time of his arrival
what a pile of shite he'd got to work with, and that the best chance of
promotion is next season with a whole new squad? He knew that scraping our way
in to the last play-off place would have again papered over some very large
cracks. A little bit of timely and deliberate manipulation of the team leads
to a very low key end of season, but allows Warnock to say to Bates 'I told you
so, we need 12 new players'.

Or am I crediting Warnock with too much brain power?
