Do the usual tests, swap cable, try on several computers, check the settings, etc. It almost sounds like its loosing sync of signal. so its def. worth looking into.
I d go into settings on the monitor, assuming its got a menu you can enter, and see if you can set a standard def. and refresh rate. See how that goes.
