Becchio does hit the ground very easily and his touch is not the best but he
does win a lot of free kicks which helps move us up the pitch and he has a
decent scoring record at this level; if you are concentrating on player
weaknesses at this level there are plenty to note for almost every player that
is why they are championship players.
I have also watched Becchio at every home game over the last 4 seasons and a
fair few away games too, I am not sure this gives any superiority in judging a
player or contirbuting a valid opinion but if it helps I qualify.
getting rid of becchio for Leeds to progress is not really valid, any manager
coming into Leeds would have far more pressing concerns to deal with, wingers,
possibly another centremid, and some cover for centreback and fullback
positions would be my preference and if a striker did come in I would still
keep becchio as a useful squad player and ditch Gray. Becchioss not even the
worst striker we have had in reccent times take your pick from Vokes, Paynter,
Trundle, Constantine, Kandol, Showunmi, McSheffrey, Dickinson, Grella and I am
sure there are a number of others who contirbuted less, performed worse than
Becchio.
Dont get me wrong I'm not Becchios number 1 fan by any means but he is not the
worst thing about our playing staff in recent years by a long stretch of the
imagination and if anything I'd have him down as a positive contributor to our
times down in lower divisions. Equally I think Becchio would have many suitors
in this division maybe not the top few clubs but the chasing pack and down
would all take him, and thats telling indicator of a players worth / ability.
Equally everybdy has a player they cannot stand its part and parcel of being a
fan and its not always rational, I could never stand Neil Kilkenny thought he
was the worst footballer to wear the white shirt!! how can you have a centre
mid who never tackles and can't run (Although Michael Tonge is trying his best
to match this style)!
