Because when you actually bother to attend matches and invest time and effort in it it becomes your life. It takes over.
I can't be bothered these days, I'd rather have a wank than watch us on TV. Not sure I'd go even if I was back up North. Having a season ticket for 4-5 years or whatever it was actually ruined my life. Driving up and down the bastard M1 for evening games was more effort than it was worth.
