There was also the free kick Ipswich scored from the halfway line in 1978/9.
Harvey thought it was coming to the edge of the area so came off his line, and
realised too late that he'd misjudged it, as it sailed over his head a dropped
into the net. But at least we won that game 3-2.

We actually had quite a good record at Portman Road in the late 70s, even when
our post-Revie decline had set in and Ipswich were becoming one of the top
sides in the country. So much so that when Allan Clarke's side bored their way
to a 1-1 draw in 1980/1, the local paper's match report had the headline 'Leeds
still Town's Bogey team'.

I know all this because I was at school in the area throughout that period.

I have never enjoyed the prospect of a visit to Ipsouits.

I well recall a defeat in the 70s when Paul Madeley scored a terrible og.
He was standing on the edge of the box and a diagonal ball came through to
him. He just diverted it back to David Harvey without bothering to look. If
he had, he would have seen that Harvey wanted him to leave it and was
moving out to collect the ball himself. Harvey then turned and basically
crawled back towards the goal as the ball trickled over the
line.............right in front of where we were standing. Agony.
