"French guy on guardian football weekly said Anelka knew exactly what he
was doing and should be banned."

yeah well I dont think what one guys says about what the other one was
thinking would hold up in court. right? You re the laywer, you tell me.

That quenelle thing is actually interesting in a way. it started off as
either an anti establishmentthing I read. since then like everything
that gets popular its been bastardized and used left and right for abuse.
thats not cool of course, I dont condone any racism
and/or racial abuse. having said that I take issues with far right and far
left as well.

BBC got a good article on the quenelle. it states amongst other things that
some think its a movement of defiance against the establishment, so maybe
anarchistic. A french academic guy says that its likely that most that use
the sign dont even know what it means. Finally a UK expert on french right
wing said: "Dieudonne has been involved with anti-racist left-wing
activists as well as far-right activists. "At the moment, the use of this
gesture seems too diffuse to fit any simple right-left interpretation."

I cant disagree with that last sentence, I ve read too many interpretations
of that thing. I do prefer the real Quenelle as its defined in the larousse
gastronomic though.
