This has been an extraordinary and worrying 24 hours. Our club is apparently run by fools masquerading as businessmen. A view from afar.
David Haigh - prospective Tory MP. Most likely in this to raise his profile and ease his way into politics. Dropped the ball badly with Sports Capital. As inept as any of the other clowns running the country at the moment, so he'll fit right in. Sooner he goes the better. Brian McDermott - A decent man treated appallingly badly. His biggest mistake was to get involved in the politics - professional suicide. Would have been better off playing a waiting game. Festa - We have no facts, only rumours. Let's not let xenophobia get a grip, some of the anti Italian stuff has been embarrassing. Cellino - Experienced, wealthy, autocratic and high handed, jumped the gun by sacking Brian, but once Brian had publicly backed the other consortium it was inevitable. McCormack - Appears to have principles! Playing a captains hand - lets hope he can motivate the team this afternoon. Simon Jordan - as somebody else has remarked - complete bell end. Sky Sports - Pathetic. Never known for their lack of bias, the blatant attempt to whip up a market for Ross signals a new low. My view is that this has been going on a lot longer than 24 hours and that the very public pronouncements made by Brian in the last few days have forced everybody's hand. We've only just seen the fallout. In the end The owners can sell to whoever they choose, it is their club. If during the course of ordinary business a link had been proposed with Cagliari, giving us access to Italian players, how many supporters would have opposed it? We've all been quick to deride some of the signings from the UK. I'm a firm believer in times of crisis, in acting on facts. We really don't have the whole picture, so I hope there is no pitch invasion, no xenophobic chants this afternoon and that people get behind the team. Plenty of time to be judgemental once a few of the facts emerge.
