Hi, I went last night, my first live game this season. And having been encouraged at least by the style of play I have seen in some TV games this season, I said to my boy, "well at least we might see dome decent football". Well, how wrong was I.
Possibly the worst 45 minutes of football I have seen in a long time from Leeds and reminiscent of the dark days of Warnock. We were obviously told to play very deep which meant they had the total run of midfield, even playing 442 their central midfield 2 seemed to have acres of space and time to get the ball down and spray it right and left. They had so much width (ok they didn't do a lot with it but it scared us every time their wingers got the ball). In contrast we had no width, and looked to be closed down every time a Leeds player got the ball. We were congested, couldn't pass and tackling by nearly all the Leeds players were just random kicks and slices at opponents legs. One time Bianchi decided to take this guy's legs when the Norwich player was facing us and going away from goal. Brainless. Goodness what has happened to Byram who looks a shadow of the player he was. I could go on but it is too depressing. BUT we got a point! I don't how, and we nearly sneaked 3 at the final attack of the game. So many times we were shouting at Leeds players to close them down and attack the ball and yet time and time again we stood off them, giving them yards to pass and run at us. The only reason the scoreline wasn't 6 or 7 to Norwich was because of their wastefulness not our resilience. Adryan? The kid has skill and a bit of pace and great technique, but it was attritional out there and I am not sure he has the stomach for it. Better as a 'last 20 mins guy' than a starter methinks at the moment. Having said that, the only one that should start on the basis of that performance would be Silvestri, who again, was excellent, except a few bad windy kicks. Darko needs time, but I am not convinced that he knows what he is doing. Great goal by Doukara but like many in this team, he has talent and can play but only for 25-30% of the game. And the reason why he is not playing on Saturday is that he just cannot tackle and lunges in with his tree trunk legs wildly taking on a life of their own and clattering into people. So strangely, whilst I was delighted with our point, it was not 'well deserved' and seemed to suck any sense that we are going in the right direction as a team out of me. Leeds fans, class as always - I am sure they let in more than the spare 200 going on sale and many were standing all down the steps each side. As for our six-thumbed friends to our right, literally 2 chants when they scored and silence before and after. But hey, what's new? Sorry for being so negative from getting away point from a top of the table team. It's the years of being in lurkdom reading Rich Walkers realism. I feared the worst at one down. _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected] John 'Grampa' Sykes Rest In Peace old lad 28th Oct 1938 - 12 Nov 2013 MARCHING ON TOGETHER _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected] John 'Grampa' Sykes Rest In Peace old lad 28th Oct 1938 - 12 Nov 2013 MARCHING ON TOGETHER
