If the game at Bramall Lane was a League Cup match then I was there.

Alex Sabella, who was essentially Currie's replacement at Sheff Utd played, but
Currie ran the show. Of course Sabella was really Currie's replacement at Leeds
too. Also Gary Hamson, later to play for Leeds was in the Sheff midfield.

TC was just about my favourite ever player, both for his ability and his
attitude. He didn't get stuck-in as such, but even when Leeds were being
dominated, he used to try to wrestle back control of the game. I think he
fervently believed he was the best player on the pitch whatever company he was
in. His Leeds career probably coincided with the time when I went to every
match, which is why I am probably biased towards him.

2 of my favourite moments were in away games:-
At Chelsea, he nutmegged young-pretender Ray Wilkins in front of their, then
new, main stand.
Wilkins chased Currie towards the touchline and steamed in. Currie beat him
again with a drag-back and left Wilkins sprawling off the pitch. Currie
flicked the ball forward down the line, but before chasing it, did a quick bow
to the home hoardes, who went mental.
The Leeds fans loved it though.

The other, was a rarely shown goal in the first game of the 1978-79 season at
Highbury. Although it was on TV, Brady's goal in the same match unjustifiably
got more TV repeats.
It was a carbon copy of a goal scored by Nelinho of Brazil, a few weeks earlier
in the World Cup 3rd place match v Italy. It was almost as though he'd seen
Nelinho do it, and thought 'I'll try that in the new season'. Nelinho's goal
is quite easy to find on You Tube, but Currie's is a bit harder to come across.

Anyway, forgive me for such indulgence. I only wish I could remember what
happened yesterday.

KOT.
