For their first goal there was a large appeal that their winger controlled the ball with his hand at the start of his run...but that doesn't excuse the defending of either Wootton(?) and Bamba - a suicidal lunge that would have conceded a penalty had he connected.
Our first...it was Byram that took the ball round the keeper, making one of those cute feints to chip the ball back in so the charging keeper leaps in the air doing a star jump, the player then pushes it underneath this jump and runs round to collect it. His first cross was blocked and that came out to Dallas, who dinked towards the back post, where the keeper, recovering his ground flapped an arm over his head only succeeded in pushing it to Bamba's feet 6 yards out. Wood finished well. For me it was the one thing he did all game...although he did put a lot of effort in. If he did nothing each game but could be relied on to score every game, then I'd buy that, but he can't and doesn't. Silvestri made two or three cracking saves. All 3 of our main centre halves are v similar...80 minutes of decent diligent defensive play, 5 minutes of being lost, badly out of position and 5 minutes of cluelessly bad challenges. Hard to know who to rely on...for me probably last night's pairing was the best. The ref was reacting to Derby's histrionics - the one part of their game I didn't admire, they were an otherwise tidy team, they look a good bet for promotion - while not giving anything to Leeds for similar challenges...although to be fair, this only seemed to be an issue for the middle third of the match. Our spirit was good last night and the crowd seemed to respond to that. All in all pretty heartening stuff.
