A few thoughts about last night. I thought it was a momentous night for many reasons. First, everyone including me was mightily pissed off with the team selection. How can we possible win a game with Mowatt and Grimes in midfield and an attack that's hardly scored a league goal this season? Coupled with that we leave out our best defender and star player and play a right back at left back who has played 20 mins of first team football this season.
For me it was an astounding team selection which said to me that Monk wasn't bothered about this competition and was more interested in Burton on Saturday. After 30 mins I think you could say I was right. Norwich played us off the park, they were quicker and brighter and had players who were comfortable on the ball. It was no surprise when we went 1 down when they broke from OUR corner, one pass, one run, cross and an easy finish. Silvestre kept us in the game with a couple of good saves and it seemed like it was going to be a very long night. Credit to us, we battled our way back into it and had a few chances before Roofe crossed to Doukara who headed back to an unmarked Andersson (or someone with a name like that) who couldn't miss. Doukara was inspired and he looked hungry, fit and determined. He ran hard, won balls in the air and caused Norwich all sorts of problems. Second half and unbelievable we started to take control. Wood came on for Antosson and we created chance after chance, the best one falling to Mowatt, who unbelievable missed an open goal. Worse miss I've seen for a long time and summed up his season so far. He was dragged off shortly afterwards. Sacko came on and gave us a bit of pace and I felt really comfortable watching us dominate and I thought there was only going to be one winner. Wood looked lively, Vierra was tenacious and with Philips coming on for the last 15 minutes we looked like we wanted it more than they did. Then disaster, Coyle got injured , Vierra was sacrificed to right back and we went into extra time struggling. Norwich took the lead with an easy goal and I considered leaving to go get the last train. Glad I didn't. We continued to battle with everyone putting in 100% including Philips and Grimes who both had their best games. It was still a bit of a surprise when Sacko crossed / shot and their keeper palmed it out across the floor to unmarked Wood who couldn't miss. Pandemonium. I actually thought we would go and win it and moving in to pens I actually felt quite confident. I think Norwich had act silly run out of steam. The pens were tense with Philips and Grimes ruining their good work and Sylvestre making himself a hero. Vierra's penalty considering his age was phenomenal and I love that lad. This for me was by far the best performance of the season. Sylvestre - 10. He was that good I'd consider starting with him on Saturday. Coyle - 7. Beradi - 6 Bartley - 8 Cooper - 8 Mowatt - 4 Roofe - 7 Doukara - 9 Again, I'd consider him for a starting place alongside Wood. Grimes - 6 his best game. Vierra - 9 hero Antosson - 6 Subs Philips - 8 Wood - 9 Sacko - 7 he is unpredictable and has pace but his general play at times is shocking. Needs to improve this. Monk - 10 proved me wrong. My final question would be about Norwich who also made 7 changes. Were they shit ? Beat Burton and I think we're on a roll. MC and GM - great partnership. > On 26 Oct 2016, at 00:49, "[email protected]" <[email protected]> wrote: > > Wow - this is what > _______________________________________________ > Leedslist mailing list > Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist > To unsubscribe, email [email protected] > > > MARCHING ON TOGETHER _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected] MARCHING ON TOGETHER
