Yeah, the players have almost all the power now, it’s a brave rich owner who will just let a player hang around in the stiffs rather than let him go – I suspect Coutinho and Costa will both get the moves they want by the end of the month.
However I think the “players were more loyal in the olden days” meme is a bit over played. The wages available were miniscule then and there weren’t any billionaires offering unlimited riches. Most of the owners of clubs knew each other and there were informal agreements to keep wages down. It wasn’t really until the 80’s the emergence of “Agents” and the newmoney owners coming in along with the Bosman ruling that Players’ loyalty was really tested and then found wanting. What would have happened if scum had offered Billy 5 times his Leeds wages? ttfn Richard From: Richard Walker [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 19 August 2017 13:45 To: Richard Naef <[email protected]>; [email protected] Subject: Re: [LU] Wood yes he did get mccormack and Lewis Cook money and to be honest I'm playing devil's advocate but if Wood goes this fella will get no stick yet Bates and Cellino were murdered for selling our best players. I actually don't blame the club for Howson, Cook, Byram, Taylor, Wood etc I blame the fact that players have no loyalty and are out for the money - and there's no real argument against that in this day and age. _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: https://mailman.gn.apc.org/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected] FLAME WARS 'R US
