3 more points and still top of the League - I would have taken that at 3pm so got to be happy with the outcome.Even better we showed that Millwall was just a blip and that we are genuine contenders for promotion -either automatic or through the play offsWe knew that Ipswich were decent and that they were going to be a tough team to beat and a team that would give everything and never give up, and so it proved We just about deserved the win but a draw would not have been unfair on either team. Having said that I always thought that we would win. We started brightly and scored a lovely opener. Shaunessey played a great ball through, very similar to the one by Pablo to Sacko at Burnley. Lassogga let the ball run through and then just slotted it in - a cracking finish from a good player.
At this stage I thought we would step it up and win at a canter: instead we got sloppy and loose and over did things. This resulted in us giving away a needlees corner - a corner that brought back all the old failings on the pitch and nightmares off it as two Ipswich players found themselves unmarked on the penalty spot and one headed home. The general feeling was that that would not have happened if Pontus had been playing. Thankfully there was little time for recriminations or worry as a brilliant bit of link up play ended with Saiz putting a great cushioned header into space in the box and Phillips popped up and went round the keeper and scoring from a tight angle. 2 1 and once again I thought we would go on and win comfortably. However in the ten minutes before half time both sides could have scored - first another lovely piece of play ended with a tremendous back flick from Pablo into the path of saiz who should have shot and scored first time - instead he took it back inside and messed it up. Then jsut before the whistle Anita earned his wages heading one off the line (again) the second half promised a lot but delivered little as the two teams cancelled each other out for the most part. They huffed and puffed to little effect and we hit them on the break but it never quite came off. The second half will be remembered (if it is remembered) for two dreadful goalkeeping errors - first a corner from Pablo was caught on the line and then dropped over it by their keeper. THat made it 3 1 and we should have been comfortable but Felix - having come out dangerously but brilliantly to stop an attack in the first half - gave his critics some big ammunition when he palmed a straightforward cross back into the box and to the feet of the Ipswich player who could not miss the clock / scoreboard was not working so I was never sure how long there was left as we hung on, reasonably confidently but no where near 100% to the lead and the 3 points Not the best of games or performances but it was a win and 3 more goals - 2 crackers in their own way and whilst we conceeded there was a belief that we would not have done so if Pontus was playing 2 tough away games coming up but this was the perfect result if not performance going into them Dave _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: https://mailman.gn.apc.org/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected] FLAME WARS 'R US
