Totally agree with Jeremy that however well the team defends, not particularly well last night but been worse, they never look like scoring.
Even though it happens quickly it is strange that you can size up the situation. My first thought as I saw Ekuban go through and when the ball was heading for Grot, was 'Bet he misses'. Just like it used to be for any striker we've had in the last 12 years other than Hulse, Beckford, Becchio (oddly), McCormack and Wood (For 1 of his seasons). 5-6 out of 10 for everyone last night. Dallas seems to have got everyone's ire up, but is he much worse than any of the other right backs available? Ditto Berardi on the left. It is a bit of a broken record with me at the moment, but a team will never have any balance with right-footed players all the way up the left hand side. At least Alioski & Dallas on the right give us options to come inside and outside. Whilst Hernandez and Vierra provide quality and drive respectively, they both give the ball away a lot in their own half. Did I actually spot a player that was slower than Lasogga last night? Surely he has never got away from anyone before. I was quite relieved when the bloke brought him down, as it saved him embarrassing himself by having to run another 10 yards. Lastly, a question for the refs:- What constitutes denial of a goalscoring opportunity? It pisses me off when I hear a discussion as to whether the person who infringed was the last man and whether someone might have got round to cover? As far as I know, there is nothing in the law book about the 'last man'. But it may be that refs are meant to use this as a guideline. Whilst I realise that Lasogga was extremely unlikely to score, or even create an opportunity had he not been fouled by McDonald last night, McDonald himself clearly thought it was a dangerous situation. Lasogga did not have the pace to get through on goal, but what if it had been that Traore from Boro? He would have been through from there. Are referees meant to take that into account?
