I think away goals as a final deciding factor is OK but to my mind goals
scored in any extra time should not be counted - it seems unfair that the teams
are level after 2 x90mins but then if the away team score in extra time the
home team need to score twice
I have always thought it should either be - 2 x 90-mins and then look at away
goals and if equal go to pens
or
Get extra time if scores level after 2 x 90mins but do not look at away goals
I supppose I am Ok with having away goals count after extra time but only those
scored in the 2 x 90mins
(Hope you can understand / follow that)
Yeah I remember the Oldham game (like a lot of Leeds fans, despite their
Chairman saying no Leeds fans can get in home sections, being down the side,
upper tier and jumping about (before my accident) on the roof thing when we
scored and then when we won. It was very odd, many fans thought we had gone
through at the end and then found out that was not the case, but extra time was
strange in that both teams seemed to just stop playing and let it totally
fizzle out (that may be my false memory but that is how I remember it)I also
remember thinking how unfair the system was (correct) and that it would be
scrapped (totallly incorrect with all the surrounding razzmatazz now) since we
had finished well behind Oldham but had a chance of going up instead of them -
no doubt we will all think the same if Derby knock us out having come miles
behind us !

Yeah, I got my tickets too. Tried to get in the queue before 9am, but it
wouldn't let you. Ended up queuing for 15 mins from 9am and was in.
Like Rich, I was surprised how many there we left, but I guess it was only 9.20!
I remember away goals counting in the early days of the play-offs, but only
after extra time. If anyone is old enough to remember, Mickey Adams late goal
at Oldham in 1987. Some Leeds fans did a mini pitch-invasion thinking that had
put us through, but we actually had to wait through another 30 mins of extra
time before the 'away goal' counted.
IMO that is the right way to use away goals, i.e. only after extra time has
been tried first. I guess it interferes with travel plans in European Games,
but they can still go to extra time under the present system, just not as often.
Must admit that it did add to the drama last night knowing that a Spurs goal
would put them through, not just equalise.
