Of course with hindsight we messed up the Jan window totally, but at the time
I think it was something like thisBPF - looking dodgy - Blackman gone back
injured, need new keeper got oneSaiz - left - ready made replacement, almost
back to full fitness - Izzy BrownBaker -left- not really played and when he did
rubbish - another post injured player available - Tyler RobertsGoal scorer -
again ready made one already at the club - Bamford (who did very well at first
don't forget)Another winger needed - Dan James all sorted till Swansea chairman
or whatever he was turned his phones off
Yes, we can be critical about them leaving James till last minute, and relying
on 3 players coming back from fairly long injuries - Brown, Roberts, Bamford -
2 of whom have been out injured again and one just did not fit the bill, and we
can argue whether Casilla has been an improvement on BPF - I think prior to
Sheff U red card we did, then after Ipswich and now last night we probably
think we should have stuck with Bailey or brought in someone different
Looking at that it is clear that injuries have been our undoing - Blackman may
have been the pick of the bunch, and the other 3 have failed to remain fit
(Brown missed a few games)
Even last night we were without certain starters - Douglas, Alioski, Roofe, and
then Roberts and Forshaw either of whom may have started and   Jansson (though
could have been because injured for away leg and Berardi did well)
Add to that that the reserve left back Leif Davies who played well in his only
game was out so we had a right winger at left back (even though Dallas had
pretty much his best game and was a reasonable shout for our MoM)
I do not know how they work it out but we had 67 injuries over the season -an
incredible amount and despite what the press say it had nothing to do with
Beilsa and his methods
Of course it is all ifs and buts , but I do genuinely believe having seen bits
of him since the transfer collapse that James would have made enough difference
to get us over the line in second place.
Of course like everyone I am very down at the moment but I really and truly
think that with a little bit of good transfer business the future of the team
and the club in general (we will have 23,000 season ticket holders so no more
17,000 crowds in midweek) is looking better than it has for years
We have a great crop of youngsters to go with Clarke and Shack and are probably
not under pressure to sell any of our first team players,.- just get rid of the
dead wood that is out on loan (maybe give Wilkes at least a try out, ditto Jay
Roy Grott- though not sure he would want to come back and quite what standard
he is doing well in) Also daft as it may seem since we have no chance of
getting the £6m for him, can Saiz be rehabilitated at Leeds ?
We do need to do much better in the loan market - of our 4 loanees , one was
injured without playing (Blackman) one rubbish and hardly got a kick (Baker)
one just did not seem to fit so only played 11 minutes (Brown) and one
reasonable success without really ever stamping his authority on things in the
way say Mooey did at Hudds or Tammy Abraham is doing at VillaIt does seem to be
a recurring problem with England internationals Berkley and Townsend both
'failing' and the likes of Barry Bannan a very good player at this level not
getting a game - Dave

The logic in me says that  it was not as devastating as losing at Wembley, but
it still hurts today.  Knowing that all that emotional investment  in the
season is over, and the fact that we just saw the season drain away like
someone pulled out the plug.

My understanding was that Bielsa was only signed up for a year, but I'd be
pleased to be wrong.  I know it is all bluff and double-bluff, but the club did
not appear to be moving heaven and earth to sign players either last summer or
in January.  Bielsa was always saying he was happy with the squad, even though
we could see the shortcomings.

It seems that we are stuck with Casilla, with the contract he is on.  So we can
only hope he learns from this.  The other option is that Peacock-Farrell wins
his place back. Or decides to leave and we sign another keeper who does the
business.  To be truthful I can't see any of that happening.

Have Bielsa and the club got the desire to sign the 4 attacking players we need?
A replacement for Harrison, who to be fair came good in the playoffs.
A replacement for Izzy Brown who actually plays and gives Pablo a bit of
respite.
Another winger, for the same reason we were chasing Daniel James.
A centre forward who is robust enough to  play a full season.

A new Centre Back, to allow the Under 23 defenders to develop a  bit before we
throw them in is also a necessity.

The youngsters: Clark, Shackleton, Roberts have performed beyond  expectations,
but it might be a bit much to expect them all to step up another level next
season.

I think it will be tougher next season to have the same impact, so we'll have
to see where we are  when August comes around.

Oh dear!
