My wife often asks me " why do you keep going when it makes you so unhappy? Its daft to have a hobby that makes you miserable "Well at times yesterday I was agreeing with her but when I got home I said " that's why, because on days like today it is the best feeling in the world " Fans were certainly put through the ringer with every emotion yesterday but after the awful non event watching the u21s at crewe this is a game to savour and remember for ever. I had barely got in the ground when Summerville strode into the box and was upended- a penalty, and though I feared the worst after Tuesdays penalty debacle and Bamfords miss last time Rod did the business- 3 in 3 for him ( still dont rate him mind you The best possible start and the one we had all asked for pre match "we need to score first so they can't sit back" wa the general opinion. Be careful what you wish for. After the goal all the failings of our personnel and worse, the system, became evident. A ball over the top and down the flank got us time after time and what seemed like the blink of an eye , they were 2 1 up with 2 totally unmarked players belting it past Meslier. It could have been worse as a corner to us finished with 2 of them ahead of the chasing defenders but Meslier timed it brilliantly coming out of his area. They missed another guilt edged chance when another forward was unmarked on the penalty spot but his shot was very weak. So fairly muted boos at half time- had it been 3 1 at that stage good booing would have been much worse. Second half and Greenwood for Harrison who is having a tough time. It didn't do mu h to start with as another break lead to the 3rd as the Bournemouth player got ahead of Adam's to flick it in. Head in hands time. Then things changed and how. The ball ricocheted off a defender and fell to Greenwood, who did for the first time as a prem player, what I have seen him do loads for u23s, he picked his spot with style and skill, a great finish and we were back in it Soon after we scored from a corner, yes you read it correctly, we scored direct from a corner. Greenwood crossed it in and Liam, for once headed it downwards and in. Pandemonium. My mate said " would you settle for a draw?" " yes, no, God knows, maybe" The game flashed past and then the moment to savour - Gnonto broke and ran with the ball brilliantly, picked his time and the weight of pass to perfection and Jimmy slotted home ( 3 in 3 for him as well ) and the game was won. I joined in the less than perfect Gnonto song " willy Gnonto, willy Gnonto, he eats spaghetti, drinks Moretti , and his c**ks f**king massive" - like I say ' problematic ' to quote modern parlance but it raised the roof. We all left the ground still singing, laughing and cheering. This my darling wife is why I go !! Bad points some awful defending and a weakness in the system but
good points, Gnonto showing useful cameo again, Greenwood proving he can do it st this level Summerville showing he is a real talent , and most importantly the spirit of the team and the fact they are behind the manager Dave PS massive thanks to my mate, Dave and my daughter in law Laura for taking / bringing us home due to train strikes . _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: https://mailman.gn.apc.org/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected] Find us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/leedslist/ Rest in Peace Guy, and wear your hat!
