This was more a game of 2 prestons than a game of 2 halves. First half they were as good as any team that has been to ER , nullified us in attack, apart from the goal, a header by Bamford and a free header missed by Georginio, at the other end , they scored, forced Meslier into a good save , gave Gray a torrid time and pretty much matched us . Second half they were the dirtiest , niggliest, most time wasting team we have seen , aided by an incompetent ref and a fair amount of good fortune . Thankfully justice triumphed in the end with our injury time penalty goal winner to send us all home happy. The atmosphere suffered from the early kick off , made worse by us going behind in the second minute. A long hoof ended with a foul by Ampadu (?) inside our half . They were making use of the gusting wind fron the first and pumped the ball high into our area, winning the header and 2 knock downs before the lad hit it in from close range. We equalised fairly quickly, Gray winning the ball and beating a player close to the by line, he fed Gruev who beat another before giving it to Summerville who played it through to Firpo ( impressive again going forward today) and his cross was met at the back post by probably our man of the match, Dan James who nodded home.Second half we started like a house on fire creating three or four good chances, the best being a brilliant run in the box by Summerville whose cut back was hit against the post by Georginio, then Bamford played it over the top for DJ to run onto but his clever lob landed on the roof of the net.Their spoiling tactics and bits of good fortune ( twice the ball somehow stayed out ) meant as we went into time added on a draw looked most likely, so much so a lad near us left with the parting words " its not going to happen today".Thankfully his pessimism was misplaced as a bouncing ball hit a Preston defender on the arm and we got a penalty, put away with aplomb by Piroe so we could all laugh at their keeper ( who had eventually been booked for persistent time wasting) and go mental.Another vital 3 points and a win for football over thuggery and cynicism DaveRoll on Wednesday _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: https://mailman.gn.apc.org/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected]
