" scored from a corner, we've only scored from a corner"Well that was fun. A
brilliant performance where we totally outplayed and outclassed the supposed
best (other) team in the Division.  90 plus minutes without them having a shot
on target or a chance worthy of the name,  that is pretty conclusive.
Not sure if our defenders were worried about Meslier after the last game but
they made sure he couldn't make a similar error by not letting Sheffield have a
sniff
When we signed Rothwell and indeed when we saw him play it was very much " meh
" but he was magnificent last night running the show and unlike Gruev and
Kamara last season , he along with Tanaka , was always looking to drive us
forward.
We should have been ahead at the break, Largie had a good shot well saved,
Gnonto having been given the ball by them should have done better and Aaranson
had 2 attempts,  the first a snap shot with the keeper out of his nets, the
second a difficult volley that went over ( he had a 3rd chance, easier than the
first two, in the second half that he blasted over)They offered next to nothing
so it was a question of could we break down a defence that had had 5 or 6 clean
sheets on tbe bounce.
We relied on our secret weapon - a corner !We had had a few corners that
brought 2 comments from fans around me - either a sarcastic " great, its a
corner" or " this is the one" followed by " well maybe the next one will be"It
did not look like a good kick when Rothwell fired it towards the penalty spot
at knee height but the big sexy pirate (tm the square ball) got ahead of his
man and volleyed home - cue amazement and delirium- "get in / f me we've scored
from a corner."For once after going ahead we kept on going rather than shutting
up shop, and there was none of the usual panic in the crowd, we wanted another
but it felt like one was actually enough. Then came the icing on the cake, a
quick break , Solomon fed Piroe who carried it forward and then fed a lovely
ball through to Joseph,  who despite falling and having a man literally on his
back ( like a rucksack) he slotted home
Cue chants aimed at Wilder and general happiness
We are going up !
Roll on Tuesday night. My man of the match was Rothwell but it was 8 out of 10s
all round except Meslier who just gets a chair and a cigar , so easy was it for
him
