"Alls well that ends well" said the Bard, well my mate is no Shakespeare and
his comment when the second went it was " thank funking for that " maybe not as
eloquent but gets the job done,  which is pretty much what we did yesterday,
got the job done.
As my mate kept saying during the match " this is a strange game " and it was-
we were clearly the far superior team but kept making unforced errors, bad
decisions and poor passes that kept giving them a bit of a foothold. As someone
behind me shouted " we are in white, Leeds"
We let Barry Bannen control things far too often and far too easily, but in
truth they offered little,  2 long range shots one straight at Mes and one
bringing a regulation diving save their ony things of note barring a few
scrambles from corners and long throws that caused panic.
We got off to the perfect start, a long ball by Rothwell was chased by the
"brainless" Aaronsson and the keeper spilled it to the feet of Solomon , a
player really starting to impress, he took his time and wellied it in between
the 2 defenders on the line -a good finish.
They continued to spoil,  dive ( so many Wednesday players fell to the floor
after contact with Aaronsson fans near me started calling him Arnie the
Terminator.  All this presided over by an incompetent ref who got lots wrong
and for half the game seemed to have lost his cards.
We huffed and puffed but, one blocked shot apart,  Piroe was Mr Invisible and
it was left to DJ to test the keeper on a few occasions.
We all knew a second goal would wrap up the points but it would not come and as
the game entered the last 10 minutes it had disaster written all over it - we
could all see them equalising from a corner or a set piece.
Daniel made his usual 70 minute sub bringing on Josep and Gruev but it made
little difference.
Then on 83 he made a double sub that did matter - taking off our best 2 players
on the day- James and Solomon for Gnonto and Ramazani.  The impact was almost
immediate as Gnonto fed ( the impressive) Bogle who fed Ramazani,  we all
expected his to shoot but he delayed then turned round with the ball and shot
through the defenders legs and into the corner of the net , brilliant stuff.I
was called a killjoy for saying he needs to stop the somersault celebration but
I can just see an injury happening.
Then the real icing on the cake, a leeds corner was basically headed clear by
Joseph ( no idea what he was trying to do) but it fell to Ramazani whose shot
was then flicked backwards by Tanaka , a wonderful piece of skillSo in the end
a comfortable 3-0 victory, perhaps it flattered unsightly but they did not
really threaten apart from corners ( and one great goal saving tackle by
Ampadu) and we did look a class apart on the occasions we turned it on.
The jury is still very much out on meslier - one diving save, one shot into his
midriff and one punch at a corner do not dispel the doubts and concerns
What is odd is the general mood of the fans- very downbeat in the moot Hall
after the game,no-one would guess we had beaten Yorkshire rivals 3-0 to regain
top spot- strangely subdued
