All true (although I think Ridsdale's spending didn't get value for money (Seth Johnson, David Hopkin, Robbie Fowler, Ian Rush, even Robbie Keane). But don't forget the FA allowing ManU to scarper off to Brazil for a mickey mouse tournamen/holiday, leaving Leeds with a free midweek when (I think) we would have been playing them, so the lads decided to celebrate Michael Bridges' birthday at a club called the Majestyk.... The Wes Brown own goal being not given for "offside" was the real sickener (along with the ManU keeper not being sent off for kicking Ian Harte). I remember walking out of the pub (which was very small and in the British Embassy in Washington, D.C.) with a feeling that I couldn't put my finger on, but basically it was dread that those two dropped points would cost us. Did they ever. Cheers! Sean On Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at 08:52:23 AM EST, Robert Heath <[email protected]> wrote:
I fear it is sadly true that basically we have missed the boat, where pathetic little inferior clubs, mostly from the south coast, have managed to cling on. All of which proves what I have been saying for years (and have been much derided for doing so) which is that Ridsdale was right! He saw all this coming, and realised that we needed to get into the top echelon fast or be sucked down the plughole. He took a huge gamble to try to do that. As we all know, thanks to a pernicious combination of a Wes Brown og being ruled out for offside, a ridiculous handball penalty given against Danny Mills, and bloody O'Leary deciding to write a stupid book, the gamble failed. But I still maintain he was right to try.
