Firpo is without doubt the best attacking left back in the league and his 2 goals recently have been great. Looking at the bigger picture though , he’s a left back and he needs to defend and he really can’t. He can just about get away with it in this league but there’s no way he can play left back in the PL. Agree about Aaronson, lots of work and running which again in this league is priceless but his lack of quality on the ball at times is staggering and you know that he will lose out most of the time when he’s running towards the opposition box. A weak player.

Defensively he gets zero help from Solomon and is also expected to be high up the pitch in attack. Not quick enough to do both. Rothwell would be fine if Aaronsson wasn't so weak. Yeah he runs a lot but nearly always comes out second best in duels. Today he was bloody awful. They showed little ambition 2nd half but who would blame them - well organised but negative ! I think we look a little defensively light in central midfield when Rothwell starts. I think he makes more of an impact as a sub. I'd start with Gruev and Tanaka everytime. Firpo cannot defend and all their best moments came down their right side. Apart from the goals, they had one good chance that went just past the post at 0 0 , we had a number of shots blocked , Joseph hit the bar from a tight angle after a great run ( a cross may have been the better option) and James headed a corner over and put a shot into the side netting, but overall it was not at all exciting and there was no real prospect of us repeating our recent heroics. They were a decent side, did not tire ( unlike Sheff U and Sunderland) and were well organised. We failed to hit our usual heights. Our goal was another Firpo turns into Lee Chapman moment as he leapt to head a cross from James into the net from the penalty spot. A good goal and seemed to have set us on the right path I then made the fatal mistake of telling my mate we are the only team in all 4 divisions not to concede from a header ( provided the sheff u goal was an og) - cue a free kick into our box, Bogle left alone and in between 2 attackers at the far post and one looped a header back across goal and in. Poor defending So a poor performance and result but no need to panic, all of us would have been delighted at 7pts from the last 3 games and dropping points v West Brom causes us the least damage. We are still top with a bit of a gap despite sheff u winning today and our remaining games are all against teams outside the current top 7. A disappointing day but no more than that Dave _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: https://mailman.gn.apc.org/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected] Find us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/leedslist/ The Rev, John Lee.
