I pretty much don’t care any more. Nothing Meslier was going to do (including saving a penalty) was going to keep the scapegoating off his back… Of course I hope Darlow keeps a clean sheet, but if he doesn’t what will it prove?
The team is not functioning as a unit at the moment - a few weeks ago, everyone was going crazy for all those players, scoring all those goals and providing all those assists… where has all that attacking menace gone? I’m more concerned with the hatred that gets spilled at players - someone on here noted a few months ago Dan James saying that all the players are on social media and they can read 100 comments, 99 of which will be positive, but its the one negative one that stays with them How are they supposed to be in a good place psychologically? I think it a fair bet that a manager like Ferguson or Clough (or yes, Revie) would be horrified by this and would be trying to work out ways to minimise this exposure. I saw one last week that was is the grand old style of passive aggressive dickheadedness “I hope that Meslier doesn’t cost us promotion because if he does, I wouldn’t like to vouch for his safety” - I mean seriously what kind of shit is this? It is a game of football FFS. We are watching the slowly rotting corpse of what used to be a beautiful game and like everything else, it is money that killed it. Me and my mates chatted long and hard about renewing our STs because it isn’t the same thing it used to be - and yes we’re older. - we decided we would at least for one more season, regardless of which division, because there are still some moments of joy, redemption, uplift that you just can’t get from much else. But hell fire people running the game are making more difficult to keep the love. Sorry Kev, a longer and weirder reply than you probably expected.
