If the club is accepting the 2nd Division next year then, one way or another, they should say so and they should be backing DF all the way - there might be a miracle, he's earned his chance and he's a good bet to get us back up the year after.
However if we want to stay in the 1st Division this year, it really would take a miracle with DF on the evidence so far, in spite of having a competitive team (cf Aston Villa) and in spite of having at least some (or more) PL quality players. 2 or 3 better players will always help but I think that we should be good enough without breaking the bank in January. When you look at our squad, player by player, I still think that we are better than Fulham, West Ham, Brentford, Burnley and Wolves (almost certainly Everton as well) but our results aren't showing that. Our probems aren't the players. I would have been happy to go down with Bielsa and I will be (grudgingly) happy to go down with DF as part of a clear and shared strategy to get us permanently in the top half of the PL. But if we're hand to mouth going game to game looking for salvation then we have to replace DF now.
