Pretty non eventful and forgettable match ( at least till injury time) but a vital, and deserved 3 points. 3 points which takes us to 25 the same number as Leicester the highest of the 3 relegated teams managed last season but we have 16 matches left . That shows how much better we are than the 3 no hopers of last season There was some bafflement with team selection, firstly Darlow kept his place a surprise though not totally unexpected. Most of us were fairly ambivalent towards the decision and would have been OK either way. In the event he had almost nothing to do, one header looped into his arms the only save I recall. He did almost mess up, coming way out of his area and heading it right to one of theirs whose shot to the empty net was miles wide. The other more surprising changes were Justin in place of Bijol ( again Justin looked more than capable) and Okafor for Stach, the 2 missing players both having injuries that had not been disclosed The match was preceded by a minutes applause for Terry Yorath a much underrated member of the Revie squad Not much of note happened in an even first half, with each team having spells of possession with no real cutting edge, their best chance the aforementioned error by Darlow, we had 2 chances , first their keeper kicked it straight to Gruev but he failed to capitalise then a great one 2 between Aaronson and Bogle led to Bogle chipping the ball back to Aaronson who waited for it to come down and lashed it into the net, oh hang on, he waited for it to come down then forgot he was the new Aaronson and hit it high wide and not very handsome- the Brenda of old - to be fair to him , apart from that he had another excellent game and was involved in all our best play Second half was a different story as we totally dominated a decent Fulham team ( they showed in flashes how competent and confident they were ) but we began to create ( at least half) chances. Unfortunately all of them, a header by Struik , a long range effort by DCL and a shot by Justin were all straight at the keeper. A good cross by Aaronson was well met by DCL but his flick went into the side netting. Struik should also have done better with a header from a corner Another good move led to ( the once again impressive) Gudnundsson rampaging into the box, but when he should have crossed to the 2 or 3 men we had in the box or at least fired a shot across the keeper he blasted miles wide ( trying to atone for his own goal at their place ?)
Having already been wasting time Fulham sent on more defenders to shut up shop but DF gambled and put on more attacking options in Tanaka, Gnonto and Nmencha and it paid off. We lost and regained the ball 3 times before it found Ampadu on the right wing , his cross beat DCL but Nmencha got his foot ahead of the defender and fired home , a great finish. That was already in time added on but we had time for another chance but Nmenchas well hit shot was well saved So credit to Daniel for his subs and the team for sticking at it to earn a valuable and deserved 3points. It was strange to play at 3pm on a Saturday and I doubt it will ever catch on ( although the Arsenal game is the same) Happy times at ER ,let's hope we can get an elusive away win next Monday at Everton Dave _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: https://mailman.gn.apc.org/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected] Find us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/leedslist/ Rest In Peace Steve "Score one, score one more!"
