"Arse, feck, arse " as father jack would say This was a lesson and no mistake . Don't give away corners and don't make daft errors said Daniel, unfortunately the team did not listen as we gave them corner after corner , especially first half, then Gudnundsson Darlow and Struijk all made silly mistakes We managed one ( early ) shot from Amps and a header from Struijk all game as they scored 4 and missed another 4. This was comprehensive ( and 9-0 to Arse over the two games) but there is something horrible about this Arsenal team that makes the rout so much worse than when Thierry Henry et al were putting four past us a couple of times back in the day. That team had a style and grace that made you appreciate them once the dust has settled. I came out of this one and texted my Man City mate saying I hope " you beat these to the title " It was the worst we have played since the turnaround in fortunes and we were our own worst enemy. We gave them corners from the off ( I got to my seat a minute after the start to see us defending a corner!) and we never improved Another corner was half cleared , the winger twisted Gudmundsson inside and out then we let the striker get ahead of us to nod home. In the pub we had almost a consensus that we shoukd have accepted the money for Perri on the basis that him, Meslier and Darlow are all of a muchness and none of them good enough. We all agreed Darlow was not the answer. Unfortunately we were proved right as he managed to punch / palm the ball into his own net from a wicked inswinging corner. Yes it was hard for him as DCL was stood in his way but he should have done better. He also looked weak for the 3rd that seemed , from my seat, to go right through him ,to give him his due he did later make a great point blank save. This second ended any chance we may have had, but give DF credit he made changes at half time to try and get back into it. But Struijk made an absolute hash of a sliding tackle to allow them to cross for their 3rd as Bogle let his man get in front and put the ball through Darlow. The inevitable 4th ( 0-4 seems to be the most common result in this fixture) as a piece of magic by Jesus ( a miracle perhaps- sorry just had to ) as he turned and fired home. So a very bad day at the office BUT and these are big BUTS , , this game was a free hit, we expected to lose really, and it will not define our season, Friday v Forest is miles more important for our survival chances, and second the crowd stood by them throughout - there was no mad exodus and no booing, the fans are right behind this team , and that has to be good The day promised to get worse as West Ham went 2up at Chelsea but their defeat meant we stayed as we were with one fewer game to play.Does a 4nil home defeat affect morale ? And if so , more than a 3-2 defeat when 2 goals up ? So a bad result and a very poor performance all round but we live to fight another day and a win on Friday will change the mood totally. It will be Forest, Burnley , Wolves at home that determine our future not games v Arsenal and Man City etc Dave _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: https://mailman.gn.apc.org/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected]
