Well as List Optimist! Just remember, last night was simply about the
result. The loss on Saturday is, I think, a good thing. The kick up the
arse that we need. A gentle reminder that, despite all the opposing fans
denying this fact and constantly harping on about us not being a big club
anymore and how they will get us to their place and thrash us, before
meekly protesting that they should have hammered us and they can't believe
how bad we were ... We will have 23 FA Cup ties away from home.
Universally attracting whatever club we visits highest crowd in x years
the opposition will undoubtedly 'up' their efforts. What we're seeing is a
well organised, but distinctly average (By Championship/Premiership
standards) football team, do a job. Defend in numbers, make it difficult
for the opposition to break through and use two effective (again at this
level) front men to their best purpose.
What I cannot wait for (And maybe I'm being over optimistic here!) is
January. IF Wise is canny then his rebuild for next year (i.e.
Strengthening) starts then. I would expect 3 or 4 excellent signings to be
made, pushing the team to a higher level (and therefore finishing the
season even stronger and putting in performances that ARE above this
level) and paving the way to an additional 5 or 6 signings in the close
season (Providing of course we do indeed fulfill this promise and go up).
The view from the Bar in the Dump says the exit door is ready and waiting
for the likes of Richardson, Douglas, Clapham, Hughes and even one out of
Kandol and Constantine.
What I'm saying is, in the big picture, the footy is poor but the results
are absolutely everything right now and, whether it be by riding our luck
or just sheer grit and determination, let's just pray it carries on to the
end of the year because (I genuinely believe) THAT is when the real
footballing renaissance of this club can take place. If it doesn't,
SERIOUS questions have to be asked of the management teams 'vision'.
