Thank you for your time to consider the contents if this e-mail.
I was wondering if you had any suggestions to my current problem and
whether this is a topic which is appropriate for your list.
My firm of solicitors is presently conducting a number of class actions.
The class action which I am interested in your opinion relates to
compensation for ex-British coal miners, their widows or children residing
in Australia.
The British government is underwriting the claim for respiratory diseases
contracted having been exposed to coal dust for any period of time between
1949 and 1970. If the miner himself is deceased the children can bring an
action for compensation, even the father/miner has been deceased for a
considerable period of time.
Such respiratory diseases as chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive
airways disease and emphysema are compensable. Hearing loss is also
compensable.
This is the biggest settlement of compensation in UK history. There is
presently 3.5 billion UK set aside for the claim.
Presently we have apporximately 1,500 claimants from Australia and New
Zealand whom we are acting for. I am sure that there must exist many (
thousands ) sons and daughters residing in Australia who would qualify for
the compensation.
My problem is trying to contact them.
Do you have any suggestions, either e-mail or post, to broadcast this issue
and our desire to register their claims. The 31st December 1998 is the
final date for registration.
