Hello all,

The last time I considered Australian history was in primary school. I
never paid much attention to what my teachers said about it; despite
this I still took it at face value.

More recently I have been forced to reconsider much of what I was told.
A recent JAG (Jabiluka Action Group) rally made it clear how hollow the
whole myth surrounding Burke and Wills is. (For those who never heard
about that rally, it pointed out that our national heroes actually
refused food from the 'natives' which would have prevented their
immenent death by starvation.)

Another of those myths is the idea of 'Australia Day'. It is now obvious
to me that the 26th of january should be remembered as the start of an
attempt at genocide.

For this reason I suggest that you all consider going to the Invasion
Day Rally organised by JAG. The date should be obvious (THIS tuesday
26/1/99); the time is 1pm and the location the GPO in Bourke st.

It would be fantastic if you could all show up to rally in support of
indigenous people's demands for land and justice.

For those who are wanting to plan ahead, there will be another rally on
palm sunday 28/3/99 followed by a week long blockade of North Ltd
beginning the following monday 29/3/99.

S'later,

Depravity McTiernan.
