The Coalition Against Psychosurgery (CAP) is an initiative of the
NATIONAL CENTRE FOR HUMAN RIGHTS IN MENTAL HEALTH. CAP is a collective
of committed individuals and organisations who are working together to
bring an end to the practice of psychosurgery (lobotomy) in Victoria.
Victoria is the only state in Australia that practices this extreme form
of torture and abuse on the mentally unwell. The use of lobotomies is
in fact on the increase. Currently the Victorian Government is creating
a formal agreement with the NSW Health Department to get people referred
from NSW to Victoria to perform lobotmies on them.
Psychosurgery is inhumane, brutal and barbaric, It causes brain damage,
irreversible personality changes, intellectual impairment and memeory
loss to name but a few of the devastating affects it has on people. It
does not save lives or help people resolve their mental health problems.
All it does is destroy the spirit, soul and mind of a person.
