ANTI-WAR ACTIVISTS SET INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PROTESTS AGAINST
U.S./NATO BOMBING OF YUGOSLAVIA, SAT., APRIL 17

NEW YORK CITY DEMONSTRATION, SAT., APRIL 17, 12 NOON AT GRAND
CENTRAL STATION, AND IN SAN FRANCISCO AT 12 NOON AT POWELL AND
MARKET STREETS.

On April 7, as U.S./NATO forces intensified their bombing attacks on
Yugoslavia, the International Action
Center announced an April 17 International Day of Protest against the
two-week U.S./NATO war of
aggression. Coordinated actions by anti-war activists will take place in
over 100 cities throughout the U.S.
and around the world demanding "STOP the Bombing, Stop the War Against
Yugoslavia."

"The fact that the unilateral cease-fire proposed by the Yugoslavian
government was completely rejected
shows that the bombing has nothing to do with a humanitarian crisis and
everything to with a massive
U.S. takeover of the Balkans," said Deirdre Sinnott of the International
Action Center. "In fact, the
bombing raids intensified after the U.S. and NATO flatly dismissed the
cease-fire, and the military is
trying to psychologically set the stage for sending in ground troops_even
though the overwhelming
majority of people in the U.S. oppose sending ground troops."

"Now the U.S. is demanding that the radio and television media in
Yugoslavia broadcast three hours of
U.S. war propaganda or be destroyed, said Sinnott. "So much for free speech."

Demonstrations will occur in New York, San Francisco, Claremont CA, Los
Angles, London,
Minneapolis, Washington, Norfolk, Kingston NY, Chicago, and throughout
Italy, Germany, France and
Greece.
