Sirithunga Jayasuriya, Secretary of the Sri Lankan Tea Workers Centre, and
also General Secretary of the United Socialist Party (of Sri Lanka) will be
in Sydney this coming weekend (17/18 April).
He has been speaking to trade unions and the Sri Lankan community in
Melbourne over the past week seeking support for the new Tea Workers Centre
project aimed at ameliorating some of the horrendous health conditions
suffered by Sri Lankan tea plantation workers and their families by way of
a health care awareness program. He will be returning to Sri Lanka next
week.
His party (USP) is part of the National Left Front of left wing parties
which stood in provisional elections held in Sri Lanka in early April.
Siri was their candidate in Colombo.
