MESSAGE FROM THE MOTHERS OF PLAZA DE MAYO FROM BELGRADE

Belgrade
17 April 1999

To the Mothers and Women who inhabit Yugoslav soil:

Dear Comrades:

In the name of the thousands of Argentinian Mothers that I represent, I
want to speak to you in this difficult and tragic moment that you are
living through. The Mothers of the world cry and suffer each and every
time that a war starts. We know that their only winners are the arms
manufacturers and that we the people are the losers. The Mothers of
Plaza de Mayo are not here to support one group against another, but
only to tell everyone that the only enemy is imperialism. This Yugoslav
soil is today fragmented by the interests and manipulation of the big
powers.
The United States and its allies are Humanitys worst enemy. They, in
the name of imperialism, lead us towards death and destruction of our
people. We are convinced that nobody can say that they want peace while
clutching a gun and organising the bombing of defenceless populations.
We are here to take the testimony of what we have seen to the world, the
refugee camps and the destroyed schools. We are here to dennounce the
agression of the United States and its NATO allies.
The Mothers are terrified of seeing the arrival of this centurys end in
the midst of so much pain and so many displaced human beings. We aspire
for the coming of a day when no man, woman or child is forced to leave
his or her land.
The Mothers of Plaza de Mayo demand a cease to the attacks. The women
and mothers of the world must raise our voices to yell out. No more
bombings! No more misiles! No more persecutions!
We are disgusted to hear North American spokespeople refer to the
slaughter of men, women and children as a mistake.
As Mothers who suffer the pain of losing children due to the ambition of
the powerful weve come to Yugoslavia with our bodies to bring to you
our solidarity.
Dear Yugoslav Mothers, dear women who struggle: here we are with you to
struggle for peace and dignity.
The Mothers of Plaza de Mayo will take our message to the world because
we dont believe that the missiles and bombs are the path towards the
building of peace.
We believe in the word, in dialogue and in love of life.
