In East Timor, reports of attacks on East Timorese civilians by pro-Jakarta
militia continue, despite the signing of a so-called Peace Treaty between
the pro-integration terror militias and community figures. Even the main
signatory from the pro-self-determinatikon side, Manuel Carrascalao, has
decided to leave East Timor and Indonesia for Macao.
In New York an agreement has been signed between Portugal, Indonesia and
the UN giving a go ahead for a vote on Jakarta's autonomy proposal.
BUT NO AGREEMENT HAS BEEN REACHED ON SECURITY MEASURES FOR THE VOTE AND
INDONESIA IN INSISTING THAT ABRI (AND ITS TERROR GANGS) HAVE ULTIMATE
RESPONSIBILITY FOR SECURITY.
All supporters of East Timor must therefore continue protests to campaign
for the Indonesian military to withdraw from Indonesia and for the
Australian government to suspend military ties with the Indonesian
occupation army.
ASIET makes an appeal for all supporters of a FREE EAST TIMOR to joing FREE
EAST TIMOR contingents on May Day next Sunday. Lets make May Day a day of
national mobilisation for a FREE EAST TIMOR. In many cities, there will be
FREE EAST TIMOR speakers on the May Day platform.
In Melbourne, Shriley Shakleton will be a speaker. The FREE EAST TIMOR
contingent will meet at 1.30pm at the Eight Hour Day Memorial across the
road from the Trades Hall.
Support a FREE EAST TIMOr help build big FREE EAST TIMOR May Day contingents.
