PROTEST THE GOVERNMENT'S INTERNET CENSORSHIP BILL
BRISBANE RALLY, ROMA ST, FRIDAY 28th MAY 12.30pm
As part of a National Day of Action, Electronic Frontiers Australia (EFA)
and local ISPs will be holding a rally in Brisbane on Friday 28th May
commencing at 12.30pm in the Roma Street Forum. A number of speakers will
address censorship issues. There may be a march to the Commonwealth
Parliament offices at Waterfront Place where it is planned to arrange for
an MP or Senator to receive a deputation. If you need further information
or would like to help with the organisation of the rally, contact Greg
Taylor <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or Terry Giufre-Sweetser <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
A flyer is available here: http://www.efa.org.au/Campaigns/may28/bris.html
For general information about this apalling piece of legislation, and
actions in other capital cities, see the EFA website: http://www.efa.org.au
The proposed Bill will be debated in the Senate this week. The Bill has
been opposed by every industry association in Australia but the government
is rushing it through Parliament without proper consultation. It will
achieve nothing but will impose onerous liabilities on ISPs, resulting in
poorer services and higher costs for all Internet users. No other country
in the world is planning anything like this. Australia is destined to
become the Global Village Idiot if this Bill is passed.
COME TO THE RALLY AND SHOW YOUR OPPOSITION TO THE LEGISLATION
