YES . . . and MORE! on November 6
Write YES in the box and then write on MORE or stick on our sticker that
says YES . . . and MORE!
Your vote will be valid.
Don't let Howard's manipulation or Turnbull's conservative stupidity deny
us the chance to break with the British monarchy and go forward to
democratise Australia's federal constitution.
YES ... and MORE! is the way to make sure that there is a second elected
Constitutional Convention which can address the
issue of Direct Election of the President, Reconciliation with Indigenous
Australians, a Bill of Rights, a federal environment power, recognition of
local government, and a proper review of federal - state relations.
This can never happen while the Monarchists block the road.
We respect the feelings of the NO Republicans, but believe that they have
made the wrong tactical choice in this referendum in fronting for the
Monarchists. They argue that when this referendum is defeated, there will
be an unstoppable clamour to have another referendum for a republic with a
directly-elected President. But where will this coalition come from? And
the Monarchists will still be there, puffed up with success, to block the
way and try once more to divide the Republicans.
What you can do today
Write a short letter to the editor
The Senate and the Cabinet are the focus of the republic debate this week,
as the vital issues of the wording of the referendum question and the
Preamble, and whether parliament will affirm the Second Convention are
thrashed out.
A short, smart letter to the Editor of your nearest metropolitan daily
paper is a good way to influence this situation.
Here is an example,
Dear Editor,
John Howard is now openly campaigning for a NO on whether Australia becomes
a republic. Malcolm Turnbull and the ARM should admit that all their
concessions to the Prime Minister since 1997 have been abused and so far
have turned off the republican movement. The voters deserve a fair question
and a chance to make our Constitution really democratic.
The dirty tricks are making me more determined than ever to vote YES and to
write "MORE" on my ballot paper on November 6.
